GIFTED PROGRAM

In order for our learning environment to be a positive one, it is essential that we all demonstrate respect for ourselves, for others, and for resources. It is for this reason that we will be continuing the SOAR Program, which encourages children to show respect for Self, Others, And Resources. These behaviors are essential to academic success. Our staff developed a plan of action that will be followed whenever a child fails to follow the school’s rules regarding respect. This plan is designed with two major focuses. They are:

  1. To attend school every day and be on time to all classes; and,
  2. Keeping parents informed so that school staff and parents can work together.

Our goal is always to reinforce appropriate behavior. In the event that a child behaves disrespectfully, a plan is in place. This plan will help students to identify disrespectful behavior, understand the consequences of that behavior, and learn about alternative choices. Students will be educated about the plan as soon as school begins; however, reporting will not begin until after Back-to-School Night for students in grades first through fifth and until the first day of the second grading period for kindergartners.

The following definitions will be our guidelines:
RESPECT: To treat with consideration
RESPECT VIOLATIONS: Any mean word, look, sign, or act that hurts a person’s body, feelings, or things

All disrespectful behavior will be addressed and documented. Students will be helped to evaluate their actions and explore other choices. Parents will be notified. If the behavior is severe, students will be helped though guidance services and parents will be asked to come to work with the staff to develop a plan to help the students.

It is our goal to provide a safe and friendly environment that maximizes the learning experience. A school where respect is fostered is critical to that goal.
