INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE TEACHERS

Prince William County Schools provides an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher for each school building.

As stated in the  Virginia Department of Education Handbook, "Technology Resource Teachers provide on-site and on-demand assistance for fellow teachers to create different forms of learning and teaching with the help of technologies. They seek to improve student learning by showing teachers the thoughtful applications and best practices of these new tools."

Responsibilities of ITRTs in Prince William County include:

  • Providing instructional technology leadership
  • Demonstrating knowledge of instructional technology applications
  • Keeping current in new and emerging technologies and their application in content areas
  • Identifying and providing technology training in school buildings
  • Conducting staff development for school administration, instructional and support staff
  • Collaborating and planning with teachers to provide lessons and resources for integrating technology
  • Developing, modeling and co-teaching appropriate curriculum based technology rich lessons with teachers and students.

The handbook for Instructional Technology Resource Teachers and Technology Support Positions represents a cooperative effort between staff at the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia school divisions.
