Schools Help Fill Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets

The Operation Turkey program, which distributes Thanksgiving dinner baskets to disadvantaged individuals and families in Prince William County, is preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday. Operation Turkey relies on donated food items from schools, scouts, and churches in the community.

As part of the Prince William community, PWCS has the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the needs of our neighbors. SERVE and ACTS, nonprofit organizations in the western and eastern ends of the county respectively, receive these donations, and organize and distribute the baskets during the weeks prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Watch for news in your child’s school newsletters as participating PWCS schools organize collections of nonperishable food donations.

View the Operation Turkey flyer for SERVE, which assists residents in the western part of the county. View the Operation Turkey flyer for ACTS (look on page two of the newsletter), which assists residents in the eastern part of the county. These include a list of suggested Thanksgiving food items and other ways community members can help.

In addition to the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner, baskets also contain a gift card toward the purchase of a turkey, so financial donations are welcome. Visit the ACTS Web site or SERVE Web site for additional details about collections or ways to help in your area.
