STUDENTS TRAVEL ABROAD FOR SPRING BREAK

Group from Woodbridge Middle go to England with visiting science teacher

Woodbridge Middle School students got to tease the palace guards while in London.“It was a joy to hear students talk of seeing more of the world, even studying or working abroad,” shared Sarah Chaplin as she described a recent trip to England.

Chaplin, as a Visiting International Teacher who instructs science at Woodbridge Middle School, took her students, parents, and colleagues on a trip to her native country to experience a taste of the European lifestyle.

The group flew to London with Chaplin during Spring break, beginning their cultural adventure as soon as their feet touched English soil and continuing their tour at whirlwind speeds for a week.

“The week of fun-filled history and culture had flown by so fast, yet we had all grown more culturally aware and independent in that short time,” says Chaplin.

The students also got to see the world-famous London Eye.The travelers learned first-hand that many people in England walk from place to place, as they took many walking tours throughout the country. The itinerary included strolling through Trafalgar and Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, and Soho, while also taking time to visit Abbey Road, the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham palace.

Other stops on the tour included Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the British Museum. A journey to the sheep-scattered countryside revealed thatched cottages in Stratford Upon Avon and a chance to stand in Shakespeare's kitchen. The students even got to tour Oxford University.

Highlights from the trip included seeing the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, a cruise down Of course, no European trip is complete without sampling the cuisine -- and the shopping!the Thames River, a trip around the Millennium Wheel, and a Jack the Ripper tour. Dinner at the original Hard Rock Café at Hyde Park concluded the travelers’ week of European exploration before they all returned to the states to continue their daily studies at Woodbridge Middle School.
