"BET I KNOW SOMETHING YOU DON'T KNOW"

Lt. Governor of Virginia Gives Marumsco Hills Students Fact to Impress Their Parents

Students greet Lt. Governor“I bet if you go home tonight and ask your parents how much money the state spends every year, they won’t know,” said Bill Bolling, Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, on his visit with fourth and fifth grade students at Marumsco Hills Elementary School. “You can go home and surprise them by telling them it is 37 billion dollars!”

To wrap up the fourth grade students’ study of Virginia history and celebrate the completion of fifth grade SOLs on that subject, Carrie Webb, the school’s Assistant Principal, invited Mr. Bolling to come visit and talk with the kids about Virginia government. Flags flew from each of the students’ hands as they greeted their visitor with a patriotic salute. Well versed in their facts, they kept pace with their answers as he fired off questions asking them to name the three levels of government (federal, state, local), its three branches (judicial, executive, legislative), and what government is supposed to do (decide how to spend money, make the laws, help its people).

“My favorite part of this job is coming to talk to you,” said Bolling.
