NEW FITNESS EQUIPMENT RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

Making Fitness Fun

Principal Rachel English and students

Led by Principal Rachel English, a hushed crowd of some 550 students welcomed the visiting celebrities and dignitaries to Enterprise Elementary School to celebrate the addition of their new fitness equipment with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Project Fit America, sponsored by the Washington Sport and Health Clubs, provided the equipment as well as a related curriculum and teacher training.

The ceremony, originally set to occur outside near the new equipment, was moved inside to the auditorium due to continuing wet weather and very soggy grounds. The gloomy weather did not diminish the enthusiasm of the students, however. The children offered courteous, unified greetings and boisterous demonstrations of gratitude to the visitors, including Nancy Terry, Senior Vice President for Marketing for Sport and Health Clubs, Superintendent of Schools Steve Walts, School Board Vice Chairman Julie Lucas (Neabsco District), their own P.E. teacher Chris Sinicki, and the furry and feathered mascots of local sports teams.

The celebration ended with a video of Enterprise students demonstrating the proper use of the equipment. The equipment includes activities that especially promote upper body fitness and cardiovascular health. “The children are all excited about using it,” said Ms. English.

Marsha Robinson, who was a physical education teacher at Enterprise last year, initiated, wrote, and applied for the $15,300 grant that made the whole project possible.
