| STUDENTS TO HAVE GRADES WEIGHTED |
Grading Regulation Altered To Ensure Fairness In “Grade Weighting” According to Regulation 661.01-1, revised January 18, 2006, students graduating in the Class of 2006 and thereafter will have grades weighted in certain designated courses. These specific courses are identified by course number and by title on pages 110-112 of the 2006-07 High School Course Catalog, a publication provided to each Prince William County Public Schools student in grades eight through eleven during the registration process for the upcoming school year. The catalog is also available online (Large Adobe Acrobat file). Some courses specified on the list already had weighted grades prior to the revision; others, including designated Career and Technology Courses, will now be weighted for the first time. All Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and AICE Cambridge Programme courses will continue to have grades weighted, as they have under past practices. All grade weighting required by Regulation 661.01-1 will be reflected on the student transcript at the end of the first semester of the 2005-06 school year. Students will receive the weighted grade regardless of when they completed the course. At end of the first semester, the student’s grade point average and class rank (where appropriate) will reflect the new grade weighting for all designated courses. Students who have transferred to Prince William County Public Schools at any time during their high school career are encouraged to contact their school counselors with any concerns regarding the weighting of courses taken at previous schools. Additional questions regarding grade weighting may also be directed to the school counselor. |
