Student of the Month program gives kudos to positive role models
What does it take to be named Student of the Month at Fred Lynn Middle School? One ESOL student says he won the honor for bringing up his grades; a sixth grader says he was selected for helping someone in P.E. class. Another young girl says she was named Student of the Month for “I want to personally thank you for being positive, and for being a positive influence here at Fred Lynn Middle School,” says Assistant Principal Rebecca Tassa as she congratulates the school’s most recent winners. As each attendee receives a certificate of achievement, Tassa reads aloud the core characteristics of a Student of the Month recipient: outstanding citizenship; exemplary character; volunteers or willingly helps others; maintains a C or higher class aver “You should be proud of this achievement. Keep these certificates and be sure to use them as you apply for special programs in the future,” says Tassa. One thing that makes the Student of the Month program at Fred Lynn so unique is the way the school gets so many people involved. Each month, four students from each grade are awarded the title, along with two ESOL students and two foreign language students, and each month brings a completely new group of kids into the limelight. What’s more, the meal that’s served at the picnic is prepared – and served -- by the school’s own Family and Consumer Science (F Though often shy once they get to the picnic, the kids confess that they enjoy the honor of being named Student of the Month.
