SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE 2001-2002

The Accolades and Applause School Recognition Program for the 2001-2002 school year honored fifteen county schools during ceremonies at the schools and at a School Board Meeting in February, 2003.

All fifteen schools were selected because they demonstrated high levels of performance on SOL tests for two different groups of students—those beginning the school year on grade level and those beginning the school year below grade level.

These schools also met state requirements for the Standards of Learning and other achievement tests, the Virginia Wellness Tests, their attendance rate, and parent, student, and teacher satisfaction. Also see the news release for more details.

During a televised School Board Meeting, Schools of Excellence flags were presented to the principals, staff, and parents of winning schools by School Board Chairman, Mrs. Lucy Beauchamp, and School Superintendent, Dr. Edward L. Kelly.

At the winning schools, celebration activities were attended by school employees and parents, including administrators, teachers, specialists, teacher assistants, office staff, food services staff, custodial staff, bus drivers, as well as PTSO and Advisory Committee members.

They each received a Certificate of Excellence and a commemorative gift —a desk clock, a mug, or a lanyard, and were congratulated by Dr. Kelly, Mrs. Beauchamp, School Board members, and Associate Superintendents.

Also at these celebrations, principals were presented with a commemorative plaque, a replica of the School of Excellence flag, and a cash award.
