SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE 2000-2001

In this year's Accolades and Applause School Recognition Program fifteen county schools were honored as Schools of Excellence for reaching 2000-2001 school year performance targets, and for meeting several of those targets at an exceptional level.

Performance targets are components of the school division’s Quality Management Plan and include such measures as test scores and attendance.

At a televised School Board Meeting, Schools of Excellence flags were presented to the principals, staff, and parents of winning schools by School Board Chairman, Mrs. Lucy Beauchamp, and School Superintendent, Dr. Edward Kelly.

Celebrations were held at each winning school where staff members and parents were congratulated by Dr. Kelly, Mrs. Beauchamp, School Board members, and Associate Superintendents.

The schools received a commemorative plaque, a replica of a School of Excellence flag, and a $1,000 cash award.

School employees received a Certificate of Excellence and a desk clock or a commemorative mug.  The clock is a way to thank the employees “for the tremendous amount of time” each spent making their school a School of Excellence, said Dr. Kelly.
