veterans day tribute

Schools across Prince William County paid tribute to veterans of our armed forces recently in anticipation of the observance of Veterans Day. Through patriotic assemblies, breakfasts, “thank you” cards, and pictures, our students expressed their appreciation to veterans in their communities.

Piney Branch Elementary hosted a Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 8, that included a concert from the fourth- and fifth-grade choir and a luncheon. Some of the visiting veterans also spent time in classrooms speaking with students about their experiences in the military.

Mountain View Elementary held a Veterans Day Walk of Honor on Friday, November 8. Principal Adriane Harrison's father, Army 1st Lieutenant John C. Harrison, is a Vietnam War veteran and was among the many honored during the celebration.

Many other schools also held special ceremonies, including:

  • Walks of Honor at Ashland and Bristow Run Elementary Schools,
  • A Wall of Honor with photos and descriptions of family members who are veterans at Old Bridge Elementary School, and
  • A U.S. Marine Corps Band Concert and Luncheon at Springwoods Elementary School.

Many tributes in the schools were for our School Division employees who are military veterans. Not only are these men and women valued colleagues, friends, and family members, but their dedication reminds us each day of the importance of freedom and patriotism in this great country.
