| HISTORY | |
Partnership Prince William was founded in 1999 as a coalition among Prince William County Public Schools, the Prince William County Public Schools Education Foundation, Inc., and the Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce. The partnership was established to provide an environment where businesses and schools create mutually beneficial partnerships. The Prince William community has a rich history of supporting public education. Much of this support has been demonstrated through school volunteerism, the donation of products and equipment and the provision of cooperative education opportunities for students. |

As Prince William County grew and became more diverse, the need for expanded relationships between the schools and the community also grew. Based on the results achieved at Potomac, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Edward Kelly, proposed the creation of a coalition to serve as a catalyst for creating formal partnerships in all schools. This coalition became Partnership Prince William. Since its creation in 1999, Partnership Prince William has addressed a wide range of needs to include student achievement, workforce development and career awareness. To accomplish this, the partnership movement continued to expand. The Prince William County Public Schools Business Partnership Office (previously Partnership Prince William), continues to expand and founding members are still actively involved through membership on the Advisory Council, partnerships with various schools and departments, and through financial support in the Prince William County Public Schools. We invite you to be a part of this important community initiative. A model for this new relationship was created on October 12, 1998, when Potomac Senior High School entered into a formal partnership with six members of the business community in a widely publicized ceremony. The school, its partners and the Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce spearheaded the effort at Potomac. The formal partnership created a relationship mutually beneficial to the school and its partners. |
