Coles Elementary is named for the community it serves. The school opened January 1968, as home construction boomed along Route 234 and Hoadly Road.
Coles Elementary School is fully accredited by the Virginia State Department of Education, and has received the Prince William County Public School’s School of Excellence award for five consecutive years from 2002-2006.
Communities Served:
Coles Elementary serves Walton, Woodbine, Forest Park, and Holly Forest. Additionally, we serve some parts of Bristow Road, Aden Road, and Minnieville Road. Students living on both sides of Token Valley Road to Spriggs Road and portions of Dumfries Road also attend Coles Elementary.

Coles Elementary is one of nine Gifted Education Sites for Prince William County Public Schools. The Coles Elementary on-site Gifted Education Center serves two schools, Coles and Penn Elementary. The Coles Center serves identified students in grades K-5. The Resource Teacher also supports classroom teachers at both schools in an effort to provide enrichment for Gifted students in the Regular education Classroom.
Prince William County’s pre-school and elementary center-based hearing impaired programs are housed at Coles. This program serves deaf and hard of hearing children from age two through fifth grade. Sign language interpreters provide support for students who are mainstreamed into general education classes. Regular education students often have the opportunity to learn sign language from our Hearing Impaired teacher and interpreter specialists.
Coles Elementary School is the home of classes for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), EMR (Educable Mentally Retarded), and LD (Learning Disabilities) resource classes and Speech and Language services.

Coles has a very active PTA, Parent and Teachers Association. Our PTA sponsors many annual and monthly school events such as Fall Festival, Spring Fair, Family Movie Nights, Market Day, Reflections and many more. Additionally, the PTA raises thousands of dollars each year that goes back into the school’s general fund.
Parents and teachers also have the opportunity to serve on the advisory council to the principal, Coles Advisory Council. Additionally, parents are invited to Coffee hours with the Principal. These coffees are an opportunity for the principal and parents to have open discussions about the issues involving Coles Elementary and Prince William County Public Schools. It’s always a great time to get to know each other because our students see us as one big family.
Coles SCA (Students Council Association) is very active and has many programs throughout the year. Pennies for Patients, Letters to Soldiers, Career Day, Mittens for Students, Read-a-thons and Books for Students are just a few of the activities. We have raised more than 3,000 annually for our Pennies for Patients campaigns. Coles has also raised more than $10,000 for Jump Rope for Heart and the American Cancer Society.
