SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The Center for International Studies and Languages (CISL) at Hylton offers students a comprehensive program of study with a focus on global awareness.  The program advances the understanding of global issues respective to cultures and languages, information and communication, and political, economic and environmental systems.  In addition, field experiences such as student exchanges, Model United Nations and travel support the curriculum. Call (703) 580-4000 for more information on CISL.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & SPORTS

C.D. Hylton High School teachers and staff strongly encourage all students to participate in school-related activities which include, but are not limited to, a full complement of freshman, junior varsity, and varsity athletic programs.  Academic organizations such as the National Honor Society and Model United Nations incorporate students from all disciplines.

Other organizations focus on positive citizenship, occupational preparation, leadership, and community service. Among these are the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Ecology Club, International Heritage Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Key Club, Junior Civitans, and the T.V. Production Club.  Students are also responsible for the publication of our award-winning newspaper and yearbook, The Watchdog, and The Legend

Students take active roles in special programs such as the Governor's School, Boys and Girls State, the Science Fair, the Madrigal Feast, and several annual school plays.  In addition, the choir, band, and orchestra have established a reputation of excellence.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The faculty and staff strongly believe that a vital component of the educational program is the involvement of parents and the community.  The PTSO sponsors the All Night After Graduation Party in conjunction with the Virginia state drug prevention program, organizes fund raisers to benefit school programs, and participates in many other activities throughout the school year.

The Principal's Advisory Council (PAC) also represents parents, teachers, and students.  This council assesses the needs of C.D. Hylton High School and assists in developing the School Plan consistent with the Prince William County School's philosophy and objectives.  The Council is composed of ten parents, ten teachers, and ten students.  Meetings are open to any interested individuals throughout the year.

WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?

Hylton thrives on new challenges, such as the vision for our expanding Center for International Studies and Languages to pursue global awareness.
