ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Minnieville, which is located in what was once the Minnieville area of the county, opened in July 1972.  The school opened on a year-round schedule, because the rapid growth of the county at that time made it difficult to build new schools quickly enough.

COMMUNITIES SERVED

Minnieville serves the Glendale and Kerrydale sections of Dale City; plus the Stoney Ridge and Dale Forest Apartments; North, South and Central Park; Cedar Run; and Dale View Manor.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Minnieville has an EIAP program, ESOL program, Reading Recovery, Head Start, Learning Disability and Primary ED classes. ROP tutors, and kindergarten tutors.  Minnieville's SIGNET students attend the Penn Elementary Center.  Minnieville also has a School Age Child Care program that provides before and after-school child care for a fee.

Enrichment Program

Minnieville offers RAH (Read at Home) groups at every grade level.  The groups meet weekly with a parent volunteer to discuss reading done at home.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Minnieville has a dance group and a chess club that meet once a week after school.  The school also plays host to Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Minnieville Elementary School's PTA sponsors many events, including family nights, book fairs, fun fairs and the Reflection programs, a fine arts competition for elementary school students. Many PTA members volunteer in the school.  In addition, community members offer their time to mentor and work with individual students in programs including RSVP for senior citizens and Volunteers in Action for Community.

WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?

Minnieville's outstanding teachers and staff make it special.  Students come from many diverse backgrounds and enjoy many opportunities to share their cultures.  The Minnieville community represents 38 countries and 18 languages.  The school building's design, which features few walls and areas section in pods, offers unique learning opportunities, as three teachers share each pod.
