ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Mullen was named for the late George Patrick Mullen, long-time School Board member and chairman.  The school's motto is: "Our Kids Come First." In addition to the Prince William County Public Schools Code of Behavior, Mullen students adhere to the following rules:

1) Show respect for others;

2) Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself; and

3) Walk quietly in the hallways.

COMMUNITIES SERVED

Mullen Elementary School serves Bull Run and Manassas.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Beginning in the fall of 2000, Mullen Elementary will host an elementary foreign language program.  Currently the school's special programs include Head Start for four-year-olds, Chapter I, Learning Disabled, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Currently the school boasts the Accelerated Reader Program, a computerized supplementary reading program; and the fifth grade strings program.  "Drug-Free Zone," an anti-drug program, and tutoring begin in February.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Mullen Elementary School PTO allows parents the opportunity to get involved with their children's learning.  Activities that are planned by the PTO promote the School-Home Team concept of education.  All parents are welcome to attend the monthly planning meetings, which are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the school library, and to volunteer for the PTO's many activities.

The Mullen Advisory Team (MAT) consists of 16 member, eight parents and eight staff members, who serve on the team for two-year terms.  Parents who are members of the team represent the various neighborhoods of the Mullen school attendance area.  The purpose of the team is to develop the annual school plan and the school goals and make recommendations to the principal concerning budget and educational topics.  An "open chair" is available at each meeting to provide an opportunity for community input.  All parents and community members are invited to attend at 6:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.
