Parent/Student/Teacher Goal-setting Conferences in the fall and Celebration of Progress Conferences in the spring -  After baseline assessments in reading, writing & math are completed in early fall; teachers, parents, and students (when appropriate) meet to set goals for the year including a home-school connection goal.  They meet again at the end of school to celebrate progress.
Effective School-Wide Discipline Program (ESD) – Penn is an ESD school that has been trained by VADOE to use a discipline plan that addresses school-wide; classroom; and individual behavioral needs.

Olweus Bully Prevention Program – This program specifically addresses bullying and its prevention.  This program was established in 2005.

Enrichment Programs:

WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?

Penn Elementary is a Baldrige-in-Education (BinE) School.  We have developed a School Purpose, Vision, and Mission and have established a School-wide Goal to reduce classroom interruptions to our learning environment.  As a BinE School each classroom develops a purpose, vision, mission, and sets goals for academic performance.  Progress toward these goals is monitored by collection of data both as a whole classroom through charts and graphs and, in most classes, as individual students in data notebooks.  We encourage our students to abide by the two guiding principals of BinE: “We will be responsible for our learning.” And “We will be response-able to the success of our class.”  We also establish the Quality Factors for both a Quality Student and a Quality Teacher in each classroom.  These Quality Factors are created by the students and are used in class meetings and discussions about the progress of our students in exemplifying these factors.

Purpose/Vision/Mission Statement

Purpose:
Everyday we will do everything possible to assure student learning.
Vision:
Penn Elementary is a dynamic, inclusive community committed to excellence
Mission:
We will diligently encourage and inspire all learners.  We will collaborate and communicate in a respectful learning environment.
