SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Potomac Senior High School is very proud to have three special programs on campus: Navy JROTC, Cambridge Program, and Collision Repair Technology.

NavyJROTC students

Potomac's Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a four year elective program providing students with the opportunity to learn and exercise leadership, self discipline, citizenship, physical fitness and organizational skills. Now in its tenth year, the program offers a variety of competitive activities outside the classroom including, rifle team, color guard, drill team and orienteering. The program also stresses student involvement in school and community service projects. Benefits after completion of our program include early promotion potential in the military and significantly higher acceptance rates for ROTC college scholarships and entrance into our Service Academies.

Cambridge Centre studentsPotomac is the Cambridge Centre for the Mathematics and Physical Sciences. The Cambridge program emphasizes mathematics and physical sciences within the framework of a four-year program of mathematics, sciences, language arts, and the humanities. The Cambridge Program, which began in 2000, is an innovative and accelerated method of study offered thorough The University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Cambridge Centre students

Cambridge Centre studentsTo participate in the program, students must enroll each year in at least one Cambridge course and must complete a sequence of such classes from grades nine through twelve. The courses are divided into IGCSE level for grades 9-10, and AICE level for grades 11-12. AICE courses are acceptable for college credit. The AICE Diploma is another option for Seniors. For more information about the Cambridge Program at Potomac High School, call (703) 441-4200 or visit the website at www.potomacpanthers.org or www.cie.org.uk.

The courses prepare students for Auto Service Excellence (ASE) examinations and I-CAR examinations in Collision Repair. The mission of the Collision Repair Program is to assist the student in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary to be a successful entry level worker in the field of Collision Repairs and/or to continue his/her education in a related occupational field. The three-year program of studies begins in the tenth grade.

All three of the above Special Programs admit students through separate application processes. These applications are available on line at www.potomacpanthers.org
