Rockledge, which opened in 1972, is named for the Rockledge mansion located in Occoquan. The first school to be located within the Lake Ridge community began renovations in 2006. Additional classrooms and a gymnasium will be added in 2008. The school is well known for its collegial atmosphere where teachers collaborate to provide quality instruction throughout the day.

Rockledge has an in-house gifted and talented program that serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Every year each grade level participates in a curriculum-based program/performance for parents. Each spring Rockledge has either an International Day or an Americana Day for students and their family. Strings classes are offered to 5th graders every third day.
In addition to the in-house gifted and talented program, Rockledge offers a variety of after-school enrichment programs. A well attended PEP program helps parents learn to speak, read, and write English. Volunteers from the community provide one-on-one and small group tutoring.
The Rockledge PTA is a very large, active group. The PTA organizes parents to volunteer in every segment of the school program and as many as 20 parents can be found at Rockledge almost every day. The PTA sponsors a monthly Family Night, which often includes a dinner and childcare. Family Night programs include parenting classes, outside speakers, student activities and just plain fun. The PTA also sponsors a Dad’s breakfast in October and a Carnival each spring. Parents and community members are encouraged to participate in the Rockledge tutoring and mentoring program.
Rockledge’s school song says, “Rockledge is the place where everybody’s special.” That phrase embodies the school’s philosophy and guides the decisions made there. The goal at Rockledge is to provide the very best education for each student – one that fully meets his or her individual needs – so that they will be extremely successful when they leave Rockledge.
