ABOUT STONEWALL JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL

Over the past several years Stonewall Jackson has been recognized locally and nationally.  Stonewall was recognized in Newsweek for being among the top 100 high schools in the United States and later was selected as the Time High School of the Year.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The number of students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Program has risen dramatically since the initiation of the program in 1993.  Stonewall is now ranked 18 in the nation and 33 in the world among IB schools.  This program features rigorous academic courses, which help to prepare students for college.

IB not only provides challenging classes but helps create a well-rounded student by requiring that participants complete a minimum of 150 hours of community service.  Stonewall draws students from across the western portion of the county to take advantage of this valuable educational opportunity.

Enrollment in the IB program is open, which allows students to take as few as one IB class or a complete IB schedule and anything in between.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Stonewall is diverse in its student body and opportunities available to the students.  From our state champion cheerleading squad to the robotics team, Stonewall has a club or organization to suit every student.

Some of the clubs open to all the students are: Power Teens, Edge Club, robotics, photography, Key Club, International Club, and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

There are also academic organizations that include: National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, and It's Academic.  Sports teams have also earned top honors.

WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?

Parent Link, which allows students and parents to communicate easily with the school, provides an innovative approach to increasing parental involvement.  Parent Link allows students and parents to check homework assignments as recorded by teachers, as well as learn a weekly updated grade for each class.  This information, in addition to attendance records, is available via the Internet or telephone.

This year Stonewall began a new form of student government, the Student Activities Leadership Council (SALC).  The SALC is composed of elected and appointed students from all grade levels.  Elected positions include president, vice president, historian, treasurer and secretary, who are selected by the entire student body.

An interview committee, consisting of the SALC teacher sponsors, and the SALC president and a guidance counselor select candidates for appointed positions, such as public relations, communications, faculty relations, and assemblies commissioners.

SALC gives students an opportunity to plan and organize school events such as Homecoming, and projects including school surveys and newsletters.
