ABOUT SUDLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Built in 1971-72, Sudley Elementary School was the first open concept school in Prince William County.  Sudley is located on 14 acres of land in the Sudley community of Manassas.  The more than 800 acres that comprise the community were originally part of the historic Ben Lomond Farm.  The Ben Lomond stone mansion, built in 1836, was used as a Confederate hospital during the Civil War.  The farm was included in the 6,730-acre lower Bull Run tract, patented in 1724, by Robert "King" Carter in the name of his son Robert.  On August 27, 1972, 800 students in grades one through five entered Sudley School.  This year the school will educate 512 students.

COMMUNITIES SERVED

The Sudley subdivision and part of the West Gate subdivision.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Sudley houses a Math/Science specialty program, which is open to fourth and fifth grade students from the western end of Prince William County. Students attending the specialty program are transported to Sudley from express bus stops and become part of the Sudley School population. Math/Science students approach areas of the curriculum with special emphasis on math and science.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Sudley offers Accelerated Reader, a computerized supplementary reading program and Accelerated Math, an individualized math program with data managed by computer. These programs allow students to extend skills in reading and math.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Principal's Advisory Council, the PTA, Community Night, Career Day, Core Knowledge Day, as well as month PTA programs and family activities, offer many opportunities for parent and community involvement.

WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?

Sudley offers unique opportunities for varied instruction. A majority of students walk to school, enhancing community atmosphere. Special education programs include a Pre-K developmentally delayed program, the Emotionally Disturbed program, classes for Mild Cognitive Impairment, and the math/science specialty program. Sudley, a School of Excellence for two successive years, presents a unique environment for learning.
