The Office of Instructional Technology offers a series of professional development courses that focus on 21st Century teaching strategies with digital integration that promote collaboration, communication, creation, and critical thinking to prepare your students for a successful future. Discovery Education DEN Ambassador Program 

Spring Cohort Registration now open in ERO!

The DEN Ambassador program is a professional learning experience that supports educators as we integrate Discovery Education resources into teaching practice and share learning with colleagues. This program fosters teacher leadership, builds capacity, and grows community within PWCS.  The cohort will last three months, with one required face-to-face meeting per month for a total of three meetings.

APPLE Spring Learning Series

This learning series is offered to Prince William County educators through a partnership with Apple and the Office of Instructional Technology. Content and times are based on expressed interest. Each of these hands on, personalized events, can accept up to 10 participants. Participants will receive 2 recertification points per session. 

*This course includes 8 workshop sessions for educators. Participants may attend any or all sessions. 

All sessions take place at Apple Potomac Town Center, 15100 Potomac Town Pla. Woodbridge, VA 22191

Everyone Can Create: An Apple Workshop 

The Office of Instructional Technology, in partnership with Apple, is excited to host an Everyone Can Create workshop, open to all PWCS educators!

In this evening workshop, Apple Creatives will provide training on the new Everyone Can Create curriculum. Designed by Apple, Everyone Can Create helps to unleash the creative potential in every student. Everyone Can Create includes a collection of free project guides that teach students how to develop and communicate ideas through video, photography, music, and drawing. It gives teachers fun and meaningful ways to bring these skills into any lesson, topic, or assignment. During this workshop, participants will:

  • Discover firsthand the creative potential of iPad, now with Apple Pencil support
  • Experience engaging lessons that introduce fundamental skills and techniques in photography, video, music, and drawing using free apps available on iPad
  • Get hands-on with the Everyone Can Create teacher guide that includes materials to help teachers infuse creative skills into the subjects they teach every day.


Everyone Can Create will be held at the Kelly Leadership Center, Room 1101, on January 21, 2020, from 5-8:00 p.m.

Apple Teacher Cohort — Winter 2020

This winter, the Office of Instructional Technology is offering an Apple Teacher Cohort, open to all PWCS educators. This free professional learning series is designed to empower teachers to create personalized, blended learning environments for their students, using iPads as tools for teaching and learning. Learn how to unleash your students' creativity and design future ready learning experiences!

The cohort will meet face-to-face from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Independent Hill Complex, Trailer 45, on the following dates:

January 23, January 30, February 6, and February 13

A showcase event will be held at the Potomac Town Center Apple Store on March 12, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Minecraft Teacher Academy

Get ready to play, craft, and learn!

Minecraft: Education Edition is an open-world game that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem solving in an immersive environment where the only limit is your imagination. By participating in the Minecraft Teacher Academy, you will receive an overview of Minecraft: Education Edition, learn to play the game, create curriculum, and find classroom resources you can take back to your classroom and continue your journey. The Minecraft Teacher Academy consists of 3 face-to-face sessions and 1 virtual session.

Note: Participants must attend all sessions. No partial credit will be awarded.

Required Materials

This professional learning opportunity is BYOD. All participants are required to bring a PWCS laptop (Windows or Mac) with Minecraft: Education Edition installed. If you need assistance installing Minecraft: Education Edition, your site’s TSSPEC should be able to assist.

All participants are required to bring a computer mouse for use with their laptop. Minecraft: Education Edition is best experienced with a mouse.

If you are unable to secure a laptop and/or mouse, please contact Tim Cruz (CruzTW@pwcs.edu) or Diane Harazin (HaraziD@pwcs.edu). While not guaranteed, we may be able to provide you with one.

Please note: mobile devices, such as iPads, are strongly discouraged for this academy.
