Driver Education
Driver education is an effective and
successful program in Prince William County Public Schools, offering our
students learning experiences in classroom and laboratory environments. The
classroom instruction requirement of 36 hours is provided to all students
regardless of age in HPE II which is taken most often during the
10th grade year. The focus of instruction is on providing teens the skills
necessary for the responsibility of driving in our communities.
We offer Road Instruction of 14 hours, meeting the
requirements to license our teenage drivers. We currently offer this program
during Summer School and as an after-school program at all high schools. PWCS
meets the Driver Education law that requires a mandatory 90-minute Parent/Student
Driver education presentation that coincides with the student’s classroom
instruction. This presentation is mandatory for all classroom driver education
students and their parents prior to the receipt of the
student's DEC-District 8 card that permits the student to take the
final Road Instruction.
