Interstate Compact for Military Children

The intent of the Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students with a focus on leveraging consistency. The Compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families. The compact is in effect in all 50 states and in DoDEA schools.

The Compact addresses common transition issues related to the following:

  • Enrollment (Immunizations, Kindergarten Age of Entry, Records)
  • Course/Grade Placement and Attendance (Gifted and Special Education Services, Absences due to Deployment)
  • Eligibility (non-custodial parent, extracurricular participation)
  • Graduation (course waivers, verified credits, transfer in senior year)
