About Corey Harris

PWCS appointed Corey Harris as associate superintendent for middle schools in June 2022. Harris joins PWCS from Boston Public Schools, where he has served as chief of schools/chief accountability officer since 2019.

As associate superintendent for middle schools, Harris, in collaboration with Catherine Porter-Lucas, provides support and direction to the 17 PWCS middle schools, as well as Porter and Pennington Traditional Schools and The Nokesville School, with a total enrollment of approximately 20,000 students. He also serves as a member of the executive cabinet.

Harris has 26 years of experience in instructional and leadership roles across numerous school systems. He began his career as an English teacher for grades 7-12 in Memphis, Tennessee. He subsequently worked as an assistant principal, principal, and senior director in Memphis, Minneapolis, and Dallas. Prior to joining Boston Public Schools, he served as director of middle schools for Des Moines Public Schools.

Harris holds a master's degree in leadership and policy studies from the University of Memphis and a bachelor's degree in English education from Rust College.

About Catherine Porter-Lucas

PWCS appointed Catherine Porter-Lucas as associate superintendent for middle schools in July 2021. Porter-Lucas previously served as the principal of Gainesville Middle School since 2014.

Porter-Lucas provides support and direction to PWCS middle schools, The Nokesville School, and Porter and Pennington traditional schools. Porter-Lucas has more than 20 years of experience in numerous instructional and leadership roles within PWCS. She began her career as a language arts teacher and world history teacher at Parkside Middle School. She subsequently worked as a teacher at Bull Run and Hampton Middle Schools.

She also worked as an administrative intern at Battlefield High School and as a summer school assistant principal at Gainesville and Parkside Middle Schools. Additionally, she held the role of assistant principal at Battlefield High from 2009 through 2014.

Porter-Lucas holds master's degrees in educational leadership from Mary Washington University and in middle education grades 4-8 from James Madison University. She also holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Virginia.
