2017 Virginia Index of Performance Awards Announced

The Virginia Department of Education is honoring a total of 21 PWCS schools as part of a Virginia incentive program to recognize schools and school divisions for advanced learning and achievement.

Honored schools exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards and achieve excellence goals established by the governor and the Board of Education. The current awards are based on achievement and performance during the 2015-16 school year.

Fifteen PWCS schools earned the Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award, meeting all state and federal benchmarks and making progress toward the goals set by the board and governor.

The five PWCS schools that earned the Board of Education Excellence Award met all state and federal accountability benchmarks and made even more significant progress toward goals for student achievement and expanded educational opportunities. Students in these schools achieved at high levels on all Standards of Learning tests. The two high schools, Battlefield and Patriot, had graduation rates of 97.8 percent and 96.9 percent, respectively, for the Class of 2016.
