WJLA Channel 7 is scheduled to showcase talented singers from Gainesville Middle School during the Good Morning Washington show on Tuesday, December 5. The school’s Advanced Women’s Ensemble will be showcased during the period 5:30 -7:30 a.m. Principal Catherine Porter-Lucas, Choral Director Sherlee Glomb, and several students may be interviewed.

The students will sing from a repertoire they performed by invitation at the Virginia Music Educators Association Conference held in November.

The Advanced Women’s Ensemble currently has 59 members in grades 7-8. Students in this ensemble represent Gainesville Middle School at All-District, All-State, and National Honor Choirs each year. These active singers uphold high academic standards, participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, and are musical supporters in their community.

“Music education significantly improves cognitive, emotional, and social development in life-changing ways,” said Ed Stephenson, PWCS Supervisor of Arts.

“We are pleased to see so many of our students reaping these benefits through our Arts and Sciences program," Porter-Lucas said.
