As part of the PWCS literacy initiative, the school division is partnering with the Potomac Library and Bull Run Library to bring a children’s book author and an illustrator/author to the county.

Jessica Young, author of the award-winning “My Blue is Happy”, the “Haggis and Tank Unleashed” early chapter book series, will host a book talk and author signing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the Potomac Library.

Young is also the author of the “Finley Flowers” chapter book series, “Spy Guy The Not-So-Secret Agent,” and “Play This Book” and “Pet This Book.”

As an illustrator and author, Floyd Cooper has more than 75 books to his credit. He will share the incredible techniques he uses to make award-winning illustrations from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 5, at the Bull Run Library.

Cooper received a Coretta Scott King Award for his illustrations in “The Blacker the Berry” and a Coretta Scott King Honor for “Brown Honey in Broomwheat Tea” and “I Have Heard of a Land.” He also illustrated “Meet Danitra Brown,” “Grandpa’s Face,” and “Jump! From the Life of Michael Jordan.”

At both events, books will be available for purchase through Bookworm Central. Light refreshments will be served.
