SPARK Awards over $31,500 in Scholarships to Graduating PWCS Seniors

SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Public Schools, has awarded scholarships to 16 students for the Dr. Edward L. Kelly Memorial Scholarship, the Micron and Lockheed Martin Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), the Red Lawson Career and Technical Education Scholarships, and the Chick-fil-A Prince William Scholarship.

The Dr. Edward L. Kelly Memorial Scholarships provides financial support to three graduating high school seniors who plan to become a teacher. Dr. Kelly served as Superintendent of PWCS for 18 years. The recipients are:

 

  • Karen Cortez – Hylton High School
  • ErinGrace Drake - Battlefield High School
  • Emily Johnson – Colgan High School
  • Xavier Smith – Colgan High School

     

     

    The Micron and Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarships recognize five graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue a professional certification or a career in STEM fields. The recipients are: 


    Micron and Lockheed Martin STEM

     

  • Nicholas Buie – Forest Park High School
  • Lydia Fozo – Forest Park High School
  • Jeremy Kochan – Battlefield High School
  • Gabriel Martin – Gar-Field High School
  • Noah Wong – Battlefield High School

     

    The Chick-fil-A Prince William County Scholarship awards a $4,000 scholarship to one graduating high school senior. The recipient is:

  • Rachel Hish – Patriot High School

 

Red Lawson Scholarship Program provides scholarships to graduates of PWCS who:

 

Completed a VDOE approved CTE sequence of courses and plans to pursue a Professional Certification, an Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree, or an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree;

 

  • Anna  Achiaa – Osbourn Park High School
  • Rodrigo Salas-Hidalgo – Osbourn Park High School

Completed a VDOE approved CTE sequence of courses and plans to pursue a CTE plan of study at a post-secondary institute and;

  • Harjot Singh – Stonewall Jackson High School
  • Miranda Choplin – Woodbridge High School

 

Participated in the License Practical Nursing program and is continuing a plan of study in nursing.

 

  • Elizabeth Meldrum – Brentsville District High School
  • Amanda Hish – Patriot High School

     

    Participated in the Welding program and is continuing a plan of study in welding.

  • Jose Paita – Potomac High School
